Here is a well-written article we found on PBA.com. Hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

Fresno Celebrates "Bill Bunetta Day"

SEATTLE - 5/21/2008

In recognition of all of his bowling feats and accomplishments, the City of Fresno and the Fresno Grizzlies – the Triple A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants – celebrated Bill Bunetta Day on Monday, May 19. Bunetta, who won one PBA Tour title in the 1960 Fairless Hills Open in Fairless Hills, Pa., is a Charter Member of the PBA and a USBC Hall of Famer.

Bunetta was given a City Proclamation of Bill Bunetta Day on May 19th, 2008, and in celebration he threw out the first pitch at Chukchansi Park, the home of the Fresno Grizzlies.

The celebration is thanks in large part to Danny Ayers, a former PBA member who is writing a book about Bunetta. An excerpt from the book’s foreword, written by PBA Hall of Famer Dick Ritger, is below:

“Bill Bunetta was a fierce competitor. Bill used his success with a bowling ball as a reason to find out what was needed to become more successful and maintain the success rate at a high level of competition. He was not one to “just be a great bowler” but he needed to know “why.” Thus, the development of the analytical, technical, ‘professor’: Bill Bunetta."

Bill was the pioneer, the fore runner for the ten-pin bowling instruction and education. I have first-hand knowledge of that fact. I was 26, on the PBA Tour for a year and a member of the AMF staff of champions. Bill was the “Master Teacher,” conducting instructor training programs throughout the country and I was chosen to be with him as his under study."

Bill studied the game as no one had. He was the most technically advanced person of the time. He had researched, developed, and would explain why as he taught the mathematical spare systems, the 3-6-9 and the 2-4-6.

"Bill’s career as the “Master Teacher” traveling around the United States also earned him the title as “Bowling’s Ambassador.” Instructors about to be taught by Bill were in awe of his knowledge, in what he was teaching them, and his demeanor and personality. They really discovered who Bill really was in the non-formal settings following the structured classes. Easy going, fun loving, with a quip or story, always ready to socialize with the group, and always full of bowling stories or bowling information. A true ambassador for bowling."

Everything above speaks of Bill as a true, loving, caring, human being. One who has a true, great love of the game, but also one who has a true great love of his fellow human being. I base this on his desire and passion to provide to his fellow human being that same love, passion, and excitement about bowling. He accomplishes this by sharing through his teaching and education.

"Those of us that know Bill can only love him.

His friend forever,

Dick Ritger"
